Self Retweeting

It's like half an hour past midnight and I randomly decided I needed to write about an innane topic that only bothers me.

Self retweeting, where you take a post you made and retweet it again. It's helpful for artists! You get your work out to a larger audience because it's redistributed at different times.

I've got two issues with how people do it however. Firstly: They do it too soon. They'll tweet something out at about 1pm in the afternoon, and then go and retweet it 2-4 hours later. As someone who is terminally online, I just end up seeing the same pic multiple times and it gets annoying.

Second annoying thing people tend to do is retweet it too frequently at those same intervals. I see the pic the first time, great! I see it a second time, cool, that's fine I guess. I've already given it a like but whatever. Third and fourth time in the same day? I'm inclined to go and turn off retweets for that person. Twitter's algorithms have a hard enough time as it is putting fresh content at the top of my For You feed.

Last thing some peeps do is they'll retweet everything all at once and flood my feed. That's a no exception, retweets muted thing for me.

Self retweeting isn't a bad thing though! I definitely know it can help increase the longevity of a tweet. You just gotta be smart about it. Give it like 6-8 hours between retweets, maybe retweet it at a different time the next day. From what I think, and I'm not an expert on the topic so just keep that in mind, most of the spread of a post is done via other retweets, not generally your own. Twitter will at least show if someone's liked your post based on the original post, or the retweet, and general the retweet doesn't get as far.
